International Criminal Law
This course will cover developments in the prosecution of mass atrocity by international and hybrid criminal tribunals. It will discuss the history and development of the field of international criminal law from Nuremberg to the ICC to recent alternative justice mechanisms such as the IIIM for Syria and the Special Jurisdiction for Peace in Colombia; the sources of international criminal law; and jurisdiction over the investigation and prosecution of international crimes. The course will examine the elements of the international crimes of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression. It will also analyze recent developments in international criminal justice, including victim participation, sentencing, and reparations.
