Dates:
  • Sat 09 May 2020 09.00 - 19.00
Add to Calendar 2020-05-09 9:00 2020-05-09 19:00 Europe/Paris RESPECT – Realising Europe’s Soft Power in External Cooperation and Trade

Seismic changes in global geopolitics, increasing contestation of trade integration initiatives with third countries, and challenges to ensuring coherence across external policy initiatives at EU and Member State level are making the pursuit of EU external policy objectives more complex. The RESPECT conference will reflect on options and opportunities for better realising the EU’s soft power in achieving external policy goals set by the Lisbon Treaty and the EU’s trade and development strategy. Speakers will present and discuss the results of multidisciplinary analysis of two of the central themes of RESPECT: (i) policy coherence across instruments at EU and Member State level; and (ii) the effects of trade and trade policy on non-trade policy objectives (NTPOs) relating to issues such as labor standards, political and civil rights and protection of the environment.

This event is supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 770680.
