The new EU Commission needs to tackle asylum and immigration policy afresh. At the same time, Member States such as Germany must develop effective strategies to recruit skilled workers for its labor markets. We cordially invite you to the presentation of the 2019 MEDAM Assessment Report with a keynote address by the president of the Kiel Institute Gabriel Felbermayr: More regular migration from non-EU countries: A necessity for Germany and an opportunity for Africa. Wednesday, 30 October, from 11.00 - 13.00 at the ProjektZentrum Berlin (PZB) of Stiftung Mercator at Hackescher Markt in 10178 Berlin, Neue Promenade 6; telephone 030-200745750. Prof. Gabriel Felbermayr, PhD (Kiel Institute for the World Economy), Dr. Steffen Angenendt (German Institute for International and Security Affairs,SWP) and Prof. Dr. Martin Ruhs (Migration Policy Centre, European University Institute) will then discuss with Dr. Anna Sauerbrey (Der Tagesspiegel) ways towards a comprehensive and sustainable reform of the EU asylum system, and Germany's role in shaping it. The latest research findings on the attitudes of the European population towards immigration and asylum policies can help to develop effective and self-reinforcing policy packages at the European level. This also includes sustainable cooperation with countries of origin in Africa—also by opening up more legal channels into the European labor market. The panel discussion will be followed by a reception that will offer an opportunity to talk to the MEDAM researchers. The language of the event is German. Please register with [email protected]
