Dates:
  • Fri 13 Mar 2020 11.30 - 17.00
Add to Calendar 2020-03-13 11:30 2020-03-13 17:00 Europe/Paris Without the euro: legal and economic perspectives of the euro-outs on EMU reform.

The reforms of the Economic and Monetary Union implemented since the Great Financial Crisis (Banking Union, enhanced economic governance) fundamentally changed the landscape of adopting the common currency. The "Poland without the euro" report provides a dynamic framework for assessing the costs and benefits of delaying a decision on full EMU membership.

Further changes to the EMU are likely to take place in the future: ESM reform; the creation of a European safe asset; greening of ECB monetary policy; or further banking union reform (EDIS).

To what extent do these changes consider the possible enlargement of the Eurozone?

What will be their impact on the measurable, potential and non-measurable elements of the cost-benefit analysis of EMU membership?

Te evnt is organized following the now established format of the EUI in Brussels series. It will feature a keynote by Prof. Danuta Huebner, MEP, and a speech by Prof. Ramon Marimon, Professor of Macroeconomics at the EUI. The panel debate will be chaired by Dr Agnieszka Smolenska, analyst at Politika Insight and EUI Alumna.
