The Coronavirus Crisis — A help or an obstacle for the illiberals?
Country experts (among them Prof. Kim Lane Scheppele and Prof. Gábor Halmai) will share their observations and concerns about their country of origin or residence. Subsequently, all participants will be asked to discuss questions such as: How would you characterize your country’s response to COVID-19? If you would characterize it as illiberal, what makes it so? Will the crisis consolidate the illiberals or rather make them lose in the next elections? What should the EU and governments do to fight illiberal tendencies right now but also after the crisis? And do we expect that the world will be less democratic after the crisis?
