Empirical legal studies have been on the rise in recent years. There are now also a good number of examples in the field of corporate and financial law. This should be of interest for (i) researchers who themselves use empirical methods in this field (or even elsewhere) and (ii) for researchers with a substantive focus of corporate and financial law who discuss the findings of authors who employ empirical methods. This short seminar will provide examples of such research. It will involve some guest speakers (in person or via zoom) who have published empirical papers of corporate and financial law in recent years (eg, on topics on the activism of institutional investors; structures of corporate boards; cross-border mergers; IPOs).
