The making of the Sino-European relations (1978-1992): The role of the European Community
From 1978, the Western Europe and the People’s Republic of China went through a period of rapprochement, with growing (if not yet globally significant) trade and cooperation. The institutions of the European Community played an important part in these relations, negotiating trade and textile export treaties, as well as providing a mechanism for European member states to promote their common interests.
This seminar will explore the role of the EC in the making of the Sino-European relationship from 1978 to 1992, from the formalization of relations to the aftermath of the Tiananmen Massacre.
The seminar will be held exclusively on Zoom.
