In the second installment of the Conversations for the Future of Europe series, speakers Ulrike Guerot, Alberto Alemanno and Stefan Collignon will discuss the possible ways Europe can reform its institutions, reconnect with its citizens and avoid further potential populist and secessionist movements.
This is the second of four Conversations for the Future of Europe in 2021, focusing on how the COVID-19 pandemic and other crises such as Brexit, the rise of populism and threats to Rule of Law have darkened Europe’s political environment. The speakers will offer suggestions on what Europe can do to reform and stabilise its institutions and reconnect with citizens. In the words of Jean Monnet, "L’Europe, nous ne coalisons pas des états, mais nous unisons des hommes" (Europe does not mean to integrate states, but to unite people).
