Professor Thomas Crossley illustrates the Understanding Society COVID-19 Study on inequalities in the impact of the pandemic and associated policy responses.

Understanding Society is the UK’s largest household panel survey. From April 2020, Understanding Society participants were invited to partake in a series of web surveys (the Understanding Society COVID-19 Study) designed to capture higher frequency information during the pandemic.

In the first part of this talk I discuss the challenges of collecting data and making valid population inferences during the pandemic, and how the study addressed these challenges. In the second part of the talk I survey some of what the study has revealed about the inequalities in the impact of the pandemic and associated policy responses.

This seminar is organised by the Inequality, Welfare and Social Justice Interdisciplinary Research Cluster.
