This workshop will examine recent debates about the meaning and boundaries of marriage that have been triggered both in Northern America and in Europe during controversies about same sex marriage and polygamy. We will examine the extent to which law has included or ruled out references to nature in its attempt to account for these new demands. We will also discuss the role of the Church, especially Catholic and Mormon, in these debates.
