Pedro Barata, Senior Director, Climate Policy, EDF will introduce the consultation document of the Integrity Council-Voluntary Carbon Markets (IC-VCM) and will assess its first results. Activity on the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) is increasing following the many net-zero commitments taken by major corporations, mostly outside Europe.
The discussion will address the question of which basic governance issues need to be addressed in view of improving the environmental credibility of the offsets market in a structural manner. Most of the attention has traditionally been placed on the environmental integrity of the supply of the offset credits. The discussion should also zoom in on the demand for those credits, not least in the context of the newly established disclosure rules related to climate risks.
With this discussion the EUI School of Transnational Governance aims to contribute to a more active debate in Europe on voluntary carbon markets.
Attendance at this event is by invitation only and all deliberations will take place under the Chatham House rule.
