What motivated you to join the Global Executive Master?

I’m a lawyer by background, having studied in Vienna and abroad. After completing my PhD a few years ago and gaining experience first in private practice and now in the public sector, I feel this is the right moment to continue learning and expanding my horizons. Joining the GEM programme was a great opportunity to build on my experience while gaining new insights and perspectives.

Can you describe your recent promotion?

In December 2024, I was appointed as the Executive Director for International Affairs at the Austrian Federal Competition Authority. In this role, I oversee all aspects of international cooperation in competition law and policy. My responsibilities include coordinating the Authority’s collaboration with competition agencies around the world, as well as with key international organisations such as the OECD, the International Competition Network, the UN Conference on Trade and Development, and the World Bank. This position allows me to contribute to shaping global enforcement efforts and promoting sustainable impacts that help keep markets fair, open, and competitive.

How did the programme improve your leadership, strategic thinking, or decision-making?

The GEM programme helped sharpen my mind and pushed me to deal with issues outside my comfort zone. It strengthened my solution-oriented mindset and improved my ability to navigate complex situations without losing focus. It also enhanced my communication skills, helping me express ideas more clearly and efficiently in high-pressure or fast-paced professional environments.

Did networking with peers and faculty contribute to your career growth?

Yes, definitely. Networking with peers and faculty is a valuable part of the experience. Being surrounded by like-minded people from diverse professional and academic backgrounds exposed me to new ideas and perspectives I wouldn’t have encountered otherwise. These connections not only supported my professional growth through insightful discussions and collaboration opportunities but also led to lasting friendships that continue to enrich both my personal and professional life.

Can you share a moment when you realised the programme was helping you "level up"?

I realised the impact of the programme very early on, during the initial stages in Florence. I was genuinely thrilled by the atmosphere. Being surrounded by such driven, curious, and inspiring people created a unique energy. It was in that moment that I fully grasped the opportunities the programme offers, not just through the academic content, but through the people involved, the exchange of ideas, and the chance to grow far beyond my own professional field.

What surprised you the most about your learning experience?

What surprised me most was how relevant the learning experience was to my professional life. The programme’s hands-on approach, which applied theory directly to real-world issues, really stood out, making the learning immediately applicable and impactful.

If you had to describe the programme in three words, what would they be?

Grow, Empower, Transform.

What advice would you give to someone considering this programme?

Be open to the journey, even when it pushes you beyond your comfort zone. The GEM programme is as much about personal growth as professional development. Come ready to challenge your thinking, engage with diverse perspectives, and apply what you learn in real time. If you’re looking to lead and make meaningful change, this programme will take you further than you expect.

Applications for the Global Executive Master are open until 8 May 2026. Candidates can apply each year between October and May.
