Every year the Historical Archives of the European Union opens the doors of Villa Salviati to the public to celebrate Europe Day with various activities for families and citizens of all ages. Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year the opening of the Archives was postponed to June and was organised over four days, with the last open day taking place on 24 June, the feast day of Florence's patron St John the Baptist.

On this occasion, the Archives received the visit of the President of the Region of Tuscany Eugenio Giani, as well as of the Mayor of Fiesole, Anna Ravoni. The guests were welcomed by EUI President Renaud Dehousse and Secretary General Marco del Panta and then had the opportunity to visit the archival vault, accompanied by the Archives Director Dieter Schlenker.

The new format of the open days have been successful with more than 300 visitors participating in the guided tours over the four open days. The free guided tours in English and Italian gave the opportunity to discover the rich architectural heritage of Villa Salviati and its gardens, as well as to learn more about the role and mission of the Historical Archives of the European Union.

Those who could not participate are invited to watch the new set of videos to explore the Archives and Villa Salviati virtually.
