The European Investment Bank (EIB) recently transferred 94 new files to the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) in Florence, which are now available for consultation in digital format on the HAEU online database.

The new transfer comprises the minutes, in three languages (DE, EN, FR), of meetings of the EIB Board of Directors held in 1990. The new files provide relevant information on the meetings’ participants, agenda, deliberations and decisions.

Moreover, a new series comprises the minutes of the EIB Board of Governors from 1978 to 1990, in six languages (FR, EN, NL, IT, DA, DE) until 1981, as well as in Greek from 1981 onwards and, from 1986 on, in Spanish and Portuguese.

The EIB Board of Governors brings together the ministers appointed by each member state, generally the finance ministers. The board defines the guidelines for credit policy, approves the annual accounts and balance sheet, decides on the Bank's participation in financing operations outside the European Union, as well as on capital increases. In addition, the Board of Governors appoints the members of the Board of Directors, the Management Committee and the Audit Committee. Two independent committees report annually to the Board of Governors (an Ethics and Compliance Committee and an Appointments Advisory Committee).

The EIB is the financial institution of the European Union created by the Treaties of Rome (1957) to contribute to regional development and economic cohesion. Its historical archives were deposited at the HAEU under the terms of a convention signed on the 1st of July 2005 with then EIB Vice-President Gerlando Genuardi.
