The Department of Political and Social Sciences is delighted to announce that Professor Simon Hix of the London School of Economics and Political Science will be joining EUI in September 2021, as the next Stein Rokkan Chair in Comparative Politics. Like the current holder of the Chair, Prof. Hanspeter Kriesi, Hix is internationally known for the rigour and cutting-edge nature of his research. At LSE, Simon is Pro-Director for Research and Harold Laski Professor of Political Science; he is also a Fellow of the British Academy, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts – all titles and positions that attest to the quality of his research and his passion for post-graduate research and training.
Professor Hix is an expert on comparative political behaviour and institutions, especially parties and elections, parliamentary behaviour, electoral systems, and European Union institutions and politics. His research employs a sophisticated mix of quantitative and experimental methods, while taking theory and history seriously – a pluralism that is rare in today’s hyper-specialized disciplinary world. Hix has written four books and published articles in top US and European journals in political science, including American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, British Journal of Political Science, and European Journal of Political Research. A look at his Google Scholar numbers indicates that not only is Prof. Hix publishing broadly, he is also (very) widely read and cited. Welcome Simon!
