Biography

Lauren Kassell is Professor of History of Science at the Department of History at the European University Institute and Professor of History of Science and Medicine at the Department of History and Philosophy, University of Cambridge.

She is a historian of science and medicine, with expertise focused on everyday medicine and the occult sciences in early modern England, extending to the history of generation and reproduction, and encompassing digital humanities. She is embarking on two new projects. How to Live Forever brings together disparate approaches to ageing and the end of life to explore prolongevity thinking. Secondly, as prospective General Editor of The Cambridge History of Medicine, 6 vols., she has assembled a team of editors to develop a proposal for an ambitious and inclusive reassessment of what the history of medicine means.
