Biography

Kashimana is a political ecologist from Nigeria with academic backgrounds in environmental biology, geographic information systems, climatology, and geosciences. She specializes in climate and land-use nexus and changes, analyzing agriculture and forestry land-use conflicts, economics, and policies in West Africa.

Kashimana has worked for varied periods in the private sector, NGOs and development corporations holding designations including intern, landscape analyst, conservation officer, climate change projects officer, and environmental management consultant. Kashimana is now a co-founder of Biomes Conservation Limited, a consulting firm in Nigeria, working with governments, development agencies, and communities to improve policies for better livelihoods in Nigeria. In addition, she is rounding up her doctoral research as a DAAD scholar on land-use conflicts in relation to development objectives in Nigeria. She is interested in developing economies and development goals.

At the European University Institute, Kashimana assesses the implications of the West African transhumance and key land-use policies on livelihoods in Nigeria. Using an integrated assessment model, she runs scenarios to provide valuable insights into governance and policy options for managing resources and associated conflicts.
