I am a socio-economic historian of the early modern period with particular interests in global trade, finance, and the social life of early capitalism. My work addresses how informal networks, migration, and institutions interact and shape economic and commercial behaviour. Now a Research Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) on the ERC-funded project CAPASIA, I was previously a fixed-term lecturer at the University of Groningen. As a member of the CAPASIA project, I will work mostly with the archive of the Dutch East India Company (VOC).
