Biography

Vincent Chetail is a Professor of International Law and Director of the Global Migration Centre at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. He is the President of the Directory Board of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Senior Research Associate at the University of London and a member of the Odysseus Network for Legal Studies on Immigration and Asylum in Europe. Professor Chetail regularly serves as a consultant and advisor to governments, NGOs and international organizations (including African Union, European Union, UNHCR, UNITAR, IOM, WHO). He held visiting research positions at Harvard Law School and King’s College London. As a visiting professor, he has taught at numerous universities, such as Queen Mary University, University Paris II, University of Tunis and International Institute of Human Rights. He has published over 20 books and 70 articles on many topical issues related to human rights, migration, refugee protection, collective security, armed conflicts, criminal justice and legal history. He is the General Editor of two book series Theory and Practice of Public International Law (Martinus Nijhoff, Leiden/Boston) and Organisation internationale et relations internationales (Bruylant, Brussels), as well as Emeritus Editor-in-Chief of the Refugee Survey Quarterly (Oxford University Press) and a member of several editorial boards (including European Journal of Human Rights, Jus Gentium: Journal of International Legal History, International Journal of Migration and Border Studies).
