Dark Matter: Black Sociality and the Haptics of Queer Illegibility in Liverpool 8 and Newark, 1967-1997

This research project explores differences in the visuality of Black abjection in two Afrodiasporic sites – Newark, NJ, and Liverpool 8 (also referred to as ‘Toxteth’ and ‘L8’) –and the impacts that these discrepancies in visuality have had on the visibility and legibility of queer desires, queer encounters, and queer intimacies in (the formation of) Black social spaces.
