Emails from outside

I would like to explain here how to use a email client program in order to receive and send your EUI mails from your eui.eu mail acount. There are a lot of email client programs out of there, but the most known ones for linux are: Thunderbird, kmail, and Evolution. As the majority of these programs act in a similar way, I will only give some general instructions (thast is, attached to no special program) for configuring them.

Receiving

As far as I see, there is no problem in receiving emails from Webmail. Just do the following:

  1. Create a new account with your favorite program.
  2. You will be asked for the configuration for getting emails: select the type POP or POP3 connection.
  3. then you have to give in your username (without iuedom!)
  4. then the server name: postoffice.eui.eu
  5. and check that the used port is 995
  6. maybe you can also give in your password. This may be different depending on the program
  7. important: all programs have the possibility to let the downloaded emails on the server, which is highly recommendable. If there is no option in the account wizard, you will find this option in the configuration menu of your program.

Sending

A little more strange is the situation with the possibility of sending emails. I will tell you my configuration which works perfectly since months. But, there are maybe other possibilities. The most important thing to know is that I have to start the VPN client to be able to send emails with my eui.eu account (without using webmail of course!). For VPN please see here.

  1. Create a new account with your favorite program or complete the previous account.
  2. You will be asked for the configuration for sending emails: select the type SMTP connection.
  3. then you have to give in your username (without iuedom!)
  4. then the server name: smtpmx.eui.eu
  5. and check that the used port is 25
  6. important: in my configuration there is no authorisation (which is very strange...) and there is no encryption (which is not so strange! But it works anyway.

But, I repeat: you will have to start the VPN client in order to send your emails.
