• September 1979: graduated with a Licence en Histoire Contemporaine (M.A. in Contemporary History) graded "Grande Distinction" (average marks 16/20), from the Free University of Brussels, (ULB). Thesis subject: transmission of news coming out of revolutionary Russia in 1917-1918 in France, Belgium and Britain; supervisor Prof. Jean Stengers.
  
  
• 1982: History teaching diploma from the University of Brussels: Agrégation de l'enseignement secondaire supérieur.
  
  
• January 1985: graduated Doctor of History and Civilization of the European University Institute, Florence (Ph.D.), with a doctoral thesis entitled: Biographie de Nicola Bombacci, du réformisme au révolutionnarisme, 1879-1924, Florence, European University Institute, 4 volumes, 1425 pages. The Thesis Examining Board consisted of the following professors: Renzo De Felice, Roberto Vivarelli, Stuart J.Woolf, Peter Hertner and Jean Stengers.
  
  
• September 1989: graduated Docteur en Philosophie et Lettres, Belgian legal title equivalent to the Italian research doctorate, following examination by professors of 3 Universities, Brussels, (ULB), Liège (UL), and Louvain (UCL), of the EUI Doctoral Thesis.

4. PROFESSIONAL:

• February 1985 to date: History Departmental Assistant in the EUI Library (grade A7/A8) from 1985 to 1990, and since then to date, Library Subject Specialist in History or History Librarian or, more recently, History Information Specialist, (grade B2/B3) in the Library of the European University Institute, Florence. Duties: assisting with methodology of scientific information searches for European doctoral candidates; training postgraduates through specialized courses in accessing bibliographical, historiographical and archival information, using modern communications technologies (Internet, databases, computerized catalogues) and traditional reference works (bibliographies specializing in contemporary European history, etc.); selection, acquisition and classification of library documents (chiefly historiography in European languages), coupled with development of the EUI History Department’s periodical and monograph collections and specific research projects; maintenance of Web pages and sites (EUI Library webmaster from 1995 to 1999, and currently author of the reference pages for history).

• 1983-1984, Lecteur in French at the Liceo scientifico Francesco Redi, Arezzo. Taught French language through courses in European history.
  
  
• September 1984, won internship at the Historical Archives of the European Communities (EU), Brussels, unfinished because of military service.
  
  
• 1989-1992, correspondent on Italian history and party politics for Belgian weekly L'Instant.

• 1987-1988, Member of "EUI Library Working Group to promote knowledge and better organization of use of technologies and their impact on staff training", directed by Institute Secretary Marcello Buzzonetti, with an eye to appointment of new Librarian; presentation of an internal document on study of the history collection of the EUI Library, with a plan for acquisition procedures, written in French.
  
  
• 1987-1989, Research for the CNR (Centro Nazionale per la Ricerca) at the Florence "Cesare Alfieri" Political Science Faculty under the leadership of Professor Giorgio Petracchi on sources for the history of Russia and USSR in the Archives of the Foreign Ministry in Rome, 1919-1950. Many study visits to the ASMAE (Archivio Storico del Ministero degli Affari Esteri). The project was used in the book by Giorgio Petracchi : Da San Pietroburgo a Mosca : La diplomazia italiana in Russia 1861-1941, Roma : Bonacci, 1993.

• August 1991, Participation as lecturer in the Summer School for postgraduates in Contemporary History organized by the Instituto Ortega Y Gasset, Madrid, at the University of Alicante, with lectures on: The crisis of the Italian liberal regime and others on The introduction of Universal Suffrage and the proportional system between 1912 and 1919.
  
  
• 1990-1991, Produced a bibliography of the titles in "Women's studies" held by the EUI Library, for Prof. Gisela Bock and the EUI History Department.

• 1989-1991, Collaborated on the CNR research project on The history of the statutes of European political parties, 1870-1950 directed by Prof. Paolo Pombeni, Istituto storico-politico, Facoltà di Scienze politiche, University of Bologna. The topic, studied and researched in various national and regional party archives, was party statutes in Belgium from 1848 to 1950.
  
  
• Academic years 1996-1997 and 1997-1998, with special permission from Dr.Patrick Masterson, Principal of the EUI, professor on contract to the Political Science Faculty, University of Urbino, for the course in Science of Politics by Prof.Antonio Agosta, plus an addditional course on Comparative history of electoral systems in Europe, XIX-XX centuries.
  
  
• 1993-1996, Participated in L.U.I.S.S. project (Libera Università Internazionale per le Scienze Socali, Rome) on the Archives for the history of associations and student institutions; with research pursued at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, Florence and other Italian libraries on Student Journals and the Youth Press in Italy from the Risorgimento to date; the research centred on the Fascist period and the GUF. Classification and cataloguing of the youth periodicals found, and article on the Fascist GUF press and Fascist culture in the universities for a collective work published in 1999 (see "publications").

  These various lectures, seminars, and participations in conferences, along with research for the CNR from 1982 to date, pursued themes associated with: history of the Italian parties since the Risorgimento; history of Italian political culture from the Risorgimento to date; history and culture of the Belgian parties from unification until the Second World War; history of the Italian electoral system from the Risorgimento to Fascism and of European electoral systems in general; history of election campaigns in Italy and Europe; the crisis of the Italian liberal State from the Giolittian period to Fascism, in particular D'Annunzio as a politician from 1918 to 1924; the resumption of relations between Italy and Bolshevik Russia between 1920 and 1924; the history of the Socialist Party, the trade unions, the Communist Party and the Italian workers’ and peasants’ movement and in general of maximalism, especially in those years of crisis of the liberal State around the First World War; and finally, use of Internet technologies for historical research, availability and assessment of on-line historical resources in Italy, iconographical sources and historical photographs on line, and bibliographical databases for historical research in digital format.
