Datastream (Thomson Reuters)

Database description

Datastream is a large-scale financial and macroeconomic database, providing statistics on equities, company fundamentals, fixed income securities and economic indicators for 180 countries and 60 markets.

To access Datastream on an EUI campus desktop, go to 'Start' > 'Programs' > 'Datastream' > 'Advance'. Note also that it is possible to access data directly from Excel on EUI desktop computers (see full instructions below).

Datastream integrates worldwide economic information in a single interface, offering charting and analysis functionalities. Data and charts may be dynamically generated, tailored and exported.

Datastream 5.0 is installed at the EUI. Two online manuals are available:

- Datastream Getting Started manual
- Datastream for Excel manual

Paper copies of these manuals are available at the VSP Reference Library (005.369) and at the Badia Library (005.369).

There is no laptop access, and no off-campus access.

Time period

Macroeconomic time-series coverage in the 'Economics' section of Datastream ranges from the 1960s to present, pending series availability.

Equities coverage is normally from date of IPO to present.

Datastream is updated daily by Thomson Reuters.

Support links

The Datastream Knowledge Network  allows users to sign up for webinar training.

The Datastream Extranet support site  is accessible from the Datastream desktop, or (with password from econlibrary@eui.eu ) directly from the internet .  The Extranet provides ready-made Excel 'matrix' example files; all manuals; news of changes to existing series, and descriptions of new data releases.

A general Datastream product description is available on this Thomson Reuters page .
