The Historical Archives of the European Union received a new archival deposit from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) on Tuesday 14 November 2023. Around 55 linear metres of documents from the Court of Justice and from the General Court were delivered. It is the first transfer made by the General Court, which was established in 1989.

The Court of Justice transferred 50 archival boxes of jurisdictional files, namely, the Procedure files for the years 1990 and 1991. The second body of the CJEU, the General Court, transferred 62 archival boxes of jurisdictional files. These include Procedural files and Judgments for the years 1989, 1990 and 1991, and Orders for the years 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992. The General Court also transferred a number of administrative files.

Following the contract signed in July 2014 between the Court and the European University Institute, and governed by Council Regulation (EU) 2015/496 on the deposit of the historical archives of the European Union institutions at the HAEU, the CJEU transfers its archives to the HAEU on a voluntary basis. New archival sets from the the CJEU are regularly made available for public consultation following archival treatment, digitisation and a preliminary examination.
