Application Form – Register Early, Submit by the Deadline

The deadline for applications for the academic year 2015/2016 has now passed (25 October 2014).  Read-only access to the application is possible for candidates who have submitted their application through the Application Form.

The deadline for applying for the academic year 2016/2017 is expected to be 25 October 2015  (24h00 – CET).

For reference only, a preview of the 2015/2016 application form can be found in the Mock-Up Application Form.(please note that the form is subject to change for the 2016/2017 call for applications).

There are two distinct phases in the application process:

1. Register your application as early as possible

You are encouraged to register your application, by inserting your personal details and referee details as soon as possible. This is important to allow sufficient time for your referees to submit the reference letters before the deadline. References will not be accepted after the deadline.

2. Submit your application by the deadline 25 October

Once you have registered your application you may continue to work on the application details and attachments until the deadline of 25 October. Submit the application only when you have filled in all the information correctly and have successfully uploaded the final version of the attachments.

After submission, it will not be possible to update or modify your application.

Requested Documents

  • Prepare your CV with a list of publications in PDF.
  • Prepare an ‘Academic career statement’ (2 pages) as a PDF. The purpose of this statement is for you to indicate why you think the MW Programme, particularly the Academic Practice Activities, will benefit you. It should indicate your research and teaching interests and experience, and career plans.
  • Prepare a ‘Research proposal’ (2 pages) as a PDF. The proposal must be clear and well structured, with well-defined and realistic goals that can be achieved within the duration of the fellowship. You can also indicate if you think your research will fit with one of the following five “thematic research groups” that we anticipate continuing in 2015/16:
    • Governance, Constitutionalism and Democracy
    • Citizenship and Migration
    • Inequality and Efficiency in Education and Labour Markets
    • Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa: The Design, Regulation and Governance of Fiscal and Monetary Policies in the EU
    • Europe in the World: Foreign Relations, International Security,World Politics
  • In the application form, you will be asked to indicate which, if any, thematic research group you would be interested in, or you can choose ‘None of the current thematic groups’.
  • There is no advantage in indicating fit with a theme. Candidates will be selected according to the Selection Criteria and only subsequently will we allocate them to suitable themes. We anticipate forming additional thematic groups on the basis of the interests of the selected candidates and even dropping or amending some of the pre-announced themes.
  • Please use standard international fonts, do not use macros, special characters, password-protection, electronic signatures or logos.

Letters of Reference

  • Applicants should provide the names of a minimum of two and a maximum of three academic referees and ensure that at least two letters of reference are submitted online directly by the referees by the deadline 25 October. References will not be accepted after the deadline.
  • References from current full-time or part-time EUI professors will not be accepted.

Note for Referees

Once the candidate has registered the details of their referees, each referee will receive an e-mail with access details for submitting their reference letter online.

  • References should be submitted as PDF files. Please use standard international fonts, do not use macros, special characters, password-protection, electronic signatures or logos.
  • Do not send a hard copy.
  • You may write in a language other than English, but English will guarantee the widest possible reading.
  • References from current full-time or part-time EUI professors will not be accepted.
  • If in doubt contact ReferenceFellow@eui.eu

The deadline for submitting references is 25 October.

Candidates with own funding

Candidates with their own funding are welcome to apply and will be selected according to the same criteria and procedures. They can do so either by applying for a self-funded fellowship only by the 25 March 2015 deadline, or by indicating in the application form when applying for a funded Fellowship, that they wish also to be considered for a self-funded fellowship. (Use the field “Additional remarks” in the application form to state that funding is either not requested or that you are applying to other sources of funding to participate in the Max Weber Programme).

The tuition fee for a self-funded Max Weber Fellowship amounts to 15.000 euro for 12 months (1.250 euro per month). The fee may be waived partially or completely if special circumstances apply.

The applications (CV, Career Statement and proof of funding, all in PDF format) should be sent directly to externally-funded-mwf@eui.eu. Two confidential letters of reference (also in PDF) should be sent directly by the referees to the same email address.

Applications for self-funded fellowships are considered on a first-come basis for as long as there is capacity in the Max Weber Programme.
