Patricia McMullin

Dr. Patricia McMullin is a research scientist at the Department of Social and Political Science in the European University Institute and part of the research team on the ERC funded international comparative research project 'Education as a Lifelong Process – Comparing Educational Trajectories in Modern Societies'.

Within the project she analyses gender differences in labour market entry, and cumulative disadvantage in adult education, in Great Britain. Her PhD thesis deals with the accumulation of disadvantage over different educational pathways in Great Britain.

She has worked as a research assistant at the University of Bamberg, Germany and the Geary Institute, University College Dublin (UCD).  She has worked as a Teaching Assistant with the Department of Sociology, UCD and as an Occasional Lecturer at the Department of Public Health, UCD.

She finished her master’s thesis in social science in 2004, focusing on factors influencing individual movement from mainstream religion to new religious movements. She presented a paper at the British Sociological Association on religion and gender in the same year.

Her main research interests focus on educational inequality in third level education, employer sponsored adult education and early childhood education. Additionally she is interested in longitudinal data analyses, program evaluation and comparative research.
