The German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS)

Date/Time: Thursday 10 April 2014, 09:00 - 18:00

Speakers:

Dr. Sabine Zinn (LifBi – Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories)

Benno Schönberger (LifBi – Leibniz Institute for Educational Trajectories)

Location: Seminar Room 2, Badia Fiesolana

The German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS) is one of the largest panel studies in Europe. Having a thorough life course perspective the NEPS surveys data on competencies, educational processes, educational decisions, and returns to education in formal, nonformal, and informal contexts on more than 60,000 individuals. Albeit NEPS is localized in Germany, data sets and documentation are available in English language facilitating usage of NEPS data by the international scientific community.

The workshop consists of two parts. In the first part, Benno Schöneberger will give a gentle introduction into the general structure of the NEPS and will present the most recent data releases.

In the second part, Dr. Sabine Zinn will inform the participants about the multiple imputation strategies applied for the NEPS. In addition, she will inform about the generation of weights for the NEPS data and will give practical examples about when and how to use them.

Researchers unfamiliar with NEPS but also those having experience will profit from this workshop.
