Description
This seminar aims to equip researchers with the conceptual and methodological tools to be able to recognize and dissect eurocentrism in law and legal research. In addition, it explores ways to overcome eurocentrism in legal research.
The seminar will consist of 4 sessions of 2.5 hours each. The introductory session will explore varying notions of Eurocentrism and how they manifest and perpetuate themselves, including in law and legal research. We will then focus on Eurocentrism in two separate fields of legal scholarship: comparative law and international law. On the second day, researchers will make a short presentation on Eurocentrism in a canonical text in any legal field of their choosing and initiate a discussion on what lessons they may be able to draw from this for the design of their own research projects.
First, Second & Third Term: registration from 19 to 26 September.
