Question:
Taxation
Answer:
If you are a member of the administrative or teaching staff, both salaries and allowances are exempt from national taxation in Italy and other EUI Contracting States. However, they are subject to a tax automatically deducted at source from the EUI budget. This means that the amount you receive each month is a net sum, free from taxation in Italy or other EUI Contracting States. If you are not a national of an EUI Contracting State, we recommend checking with your national authorities, as different rules may apply. For example, this amount could be taxed in the US if you are also a US citizen or a fiscal resident in the US. For more details, please refer to the
Convention setting up the EUI
, and in particular, Article 12 of the Protocol.
