Funding Information / Eligibility

Neben den Bewerbungsvoraussetzungen des Europäischen Hochschulinstituts für die Aufnahme zum Studium gelten folgende allgemeine Stipendienbedingungen des Bundesministeriums für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung:

Eligibel sind Personen, die

• die österreichische Staatsbürgerschaft besitzen, oder
• aufgrund anderer Faktoren eine besondere Verbundenheit zur österreichischen Gesellschaft aufweisen. Mindestens zwei solcher Faktoren besonderer Verbundenheit müssen gegeben sein, so zum Beispiel:

1. Hauptwohnsitz bzw. Aufenthaltstitel der Antragstellerin/des Antragstellers in Österreich durch mindestens drei Jahre während der letzten fünf Jahre vor dem Einreichtermin;
2. (Nicht bloß geringfügige) Beschäftigung der Antragstellerin/des Antragstellers in Österreich durch mindestens dreißig Monate während der letzten fünf Jahre vor dem Einreichtermin;
3. Selbstständige, steuerlich veranlagte wirtschaftliche Tätigkeit der Antragstellerin/des Antragstellers in Österreich durch mindestens dreißig Monate während der letzten fünf Jahre vor dem Einreichtermin;
4. In Österreich seit mindestens fünf Jahren steuerpflichtige Eltern;
5. Durchführung eines Studiums an einer akkreditierten Hochschule in Österreich im Ausmaß von mindestens 150 ECTS Punkten;
6. Matura in Österreich abgelegt.

Des Weiteren wird mit Blick auf die oa. Zielsetzung (Stärkung des Wissenschafts- und Forschungsstandorts Österreich) geprüft, ob die begründete Erwartung besteht, dass der Bewerber bzw. die Bewerberin nach Beendigung des Auslandsaufenthaltes nach Österreich zurückkehrt.

Eine Bewerbung um einen Studienplatz am Europäischen Hochschulinstitut schließt automatisch die Bewerbung um ein Stipendium des Bundesministeriums für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung ein.

Ausgeschlossen sind Bewerberinnen und Bewerber, die bereits ein BMBWF-Stipendium für ein Doktoratsstudium erhalten haben.

Bei Aufnahme durch das EHI erhalten die Bewerberinnen bzw. Bewerber von der OeAD GmbH die Stipendienzuerkennung, soferne die allgemeinen Stipendienbedingungen des BMBWF erfüllt werden.

In addition to the general EUI terms and conditions of eligibility, the following general grant terms and conditions of the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research are applying:

Eligible are persons who:

• possess Austrian citizenship, or
• have a special affinity to Austrian society due to other factors. At least two such factors of special affinity must be present, for example:

1. main residence or residence title of the applicant in Austria for at least three years during the last five years preceding the applications deadline;
2. (not just marginal) employment of the applicant in Austria for at least thirty months during the last five years preceding the applications deadline;
3. self-employed, tax-assessed economic activity of the applicant in Austria for at least thirty months during the last five years preceding the applications deadline;
4. parents liable to pay taxes in Austria for at least five years;
5. completion of a course of study at an accredited university in Austria amounting to at least 150 ECTS points;
6. having passed the Matura in Austria.

Furthermore, in relation to the above-mentioned objective (strengthening Austria’s status in science and research), it will be examined whether there is a reasonable expectation that the applicant will return to Austria after completing the stay abroad.

An application to the doctoral programmes at the EUI automatically results in an application to the grant from the Ministry.

Applicants who have already been awarded with a grant from the Ministry to pursue doctoral studies, are not eligible.

Successful candidates will receive a grant confirmation by the OeAD GmbH, provided that they have fulfilled the general grant terms and conditions of the Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Research.

The authority provides a monthly grant for the first three years of EUI Ph.D. Programme. The fourth year is covered by the EUI (2024 EUI monthly grant amount is 1,505 EUR per month, in addition to other allowances).
