Candidates wishing to apply for Danish funding must select the relevant funding option on the EUI application Form
Acceptance at the EUI automatically entitles the candidate to a PhD salary funded by the Danish Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Digital Affairs. Applications for admission to the EUI must be submitted online through the application form.
Degree Requirements
- Candidates must hold a Danish Master's degree or a foreign qualification assessed as equivalent to a Danish Master's degree.
- Candidates who have not yet completed their Master's degree may still apply, provided that they obtain their degree before the start of the PhD programme in September 2027.
Stipend and Allowances
Candidates are employed as employees by the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science. According to the Government’s agreement with the unions, researchers carrying out doctoral studies in an Institution abroad receive an annual basic salary of DKK 313.100 (pension included).

The Authority provides a monthly PhD. Salary for the first three years of EUI PhD. Programme. The fourth year is partly covered by the EUI and partly by the Danish authority.
