This workshop features presentations by Joan Pau Rubiés (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona); Daniela Bleichmar (University of Southern California); Ines G. Županov (EHESS, Paris); and Anne Gerritsen (University of Warwick).

Speakers will bring their own knowledge and expertise to bear on the shaping of a conversation on different aspects of early modern global history, placing "Carletti’s My Voyage Around the World" at the centre.

"Carletti’s Relazioni" include important thoughts on the customs, ceremonies, languages and everyday practises of the people he met in places as different as Mexico, Peru, Japan, China and India. Can we talk about a proto-ethnographic eye in Carletti? Which aspects did he observe? How did previous authors and texts influence his views?

At each meeting three 10 minute informal presentations will be followed by an open discussion among participants.

Please register in order to receive the ZOOM link.

This workshop is planned within the framework of the project Carletti’s World: An Early Modern Global Voyage .
