Learning About Jewish Destruction from the Newspaper Pravda

Diana Dumitru, Ion Creanga State University of Moldova, examines the content of the key source of official information inside the Soviet Union, the newspaper Pravda. The lecture will explore the intricacies of Soviet authorities’ reports on the mass murder of Jewish people, while placing the information into a broader discussion of public discourse about Jews during late Stalinism (1945-1953). By this integrative approach Dumitru illuminates both the official message about the Holocaust conveyed by the Stalinist leadership to its population, as well as its views of Jews after WWII.
