At each meeting three 10 min. informal presentations will be followed by an open discussion among participants.Carletti had a keen eye for material things, most especially commodities and food. His text describes pineapples and coconuts, porcelain and silver. What was his view of the natural and material world that he encountered? What was his experience of flora, fauna and other materials absent in Europe? How did his material concerns shape his view of the world? This workshop features presentations by Rebecca Earle (University of Warwick); Paula Findlen (Stanford University); and Dana Leibsohn (Smith College).
