It focuses on the fields of adoption, education, and care, and on the continuities and changes in approaches from colonial to postcolonial contexts. The workshop aims to bring together scholars, stakeholders and activists who can contribute to broadening and deepening our understanding of the history of children as historical subjects and objects in humanitarian contexts. We are particularly interested in how discourses, structures, and practices related to saving, protecting, and supporting children have developed over time – from colonial times to the period of decolonisation to the current day. Specifically, we are interested in three fields of activity: adoption, education, and care, and in the continuities and changes in approaches in relation to colonial and postcolonial contexts.
