As the Biden administration unveils a more coordinated approach to Beijing spanning the diplomatic, military, technological, economic and normative domains, to what extent are we witnessing a growing alignment in the Indo-Pacific’s maritime domain?
We are entering a critical juncture in world politics. Substantial technological transformations, coupled with growing geopolitical tensions across the Indo-Pacific, and an active contestation of global norms, values and standards, are having implications that are felt all the way to Europe. As China regains its economic footing following a successful battle against COVID-19, Japan, the US and other key regional players—such as Australia—are more actively confronting China. European countries are bracing themselves for the stormy waters of US-China strategic competition, while the UK has demonstrated a willingness to step up its game in the Indo-Pacific. As the Biden administration unveils a more coordinated approach to Beijing spanning the diplomatic, military, technological, economic and normative domains, to what extent are we witnessing a growing alignment in the Indo-Pacific’s maritime domain? This expert roundtable will address this important question.
