The European Journal of Legal Studies and the International Law Working Group invite you to a book symposium on Ntina Tzouvala’s recent book.
In June 2021, the European Journal of Legal Studies published its first ever book symposium on Ntina Tzouvala’s Capitalism as Civilisation: A History of International Law (Cambridge University Press 2020).
The symposium brought Dr Tzouvala into conversation with four young critical international law scholars – Kanad Bagchi, Julie Wetterslev, Daniel Quiroga-Villamarin, and Rohini Sen – who each shared their own readings, reflections, and critiques of the book.
This roundtable event provides an opportunity for all five contributors to continue the conversation by further unpacking the book’s claims and their implications for the future of critical international legal scholarship. The initial round of discussion will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
Speakers:
Ntina Tzouvala (Senior Lecturer, Australian National University College of Law)
Kanad Bagchi (Research Fellow, Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law)
Julie Wetterslev (PhD Researcher, European University Institute)
Daniel R. Quiroga-Villamarín (PhD Student and Teaching Assistant, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies)
Rohini Sen (Doctoral Candidate, University of Warwick and Assistant Professor, Jindal Global Law School)
Moderator:
Timothy Jacob-Owens (PhD Researcher, European University Institute and outgoing Editor-in-Chief, European Journal of Legal Studies)
Participants are also encouraged to read the print publication of the symposium in advance of the event.
