His presentation will feature President Emmanuel Macron, who has taken the lead role in searching for a peaceful compromise to defuse military tensions between Moscow and Kyiv. The war between Russia and Ukraine has starkly illustrated Europe’s vulnerability in an era of resurgent big-power rivalry. Ever since he became France’s youngest leader, Macron has believed that Europe’s lasting stability can only be ensured by addressing grievances that have fueled Russia’s hostility toward the West and pushed Vladimir Putin’s autocratic regime into the arms of China. Yet the paltry results from Macron’s mediation so far suggests Russia seems primarily interested in pursuing direct negotiations with the United States about reshaping Europe’s security order. On premise places are on a first-come, first serve basis.
