The EUI-STG Latin America focus group welcomes Professor Andrés Malamud to discuss the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement.

The EUI-STG Latin America focus group welcomes Professor Andrés Malamud (Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon), for a discussion on the content and potential impact of the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement.

On 28 June 2019, the European Union and Mercosur reached a historic agreement to establish an interregional trade agreement as part of a wider Association Agreement between the two regions. The Agreement’s political dialogue and co-operation pillar was completed almost a year later. Nevertheless, a wide range of factors has affected its ratification process.

The European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs has enlisted Professor Andrés Malamud to estimate the odds of ratification and implementation of the Association Agreement. In this lecture, Professor Malamud will share his expertise. In a discussion with the live audience, he will compare this agreement with similar ones and assess its prospects for ratification.

The event will take place in hybrid format at the STG premises in Palazzo Buontalenti.

All are welcome to attend. Please register at the link, indicating whether you intend to attend online or in person. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration to allow others to participate.
