This event, organised by the Library at the European University Institute and the Florentine bookshop Todo Modo, will develop a discussion about the role of the intellectual. Three authors will talk about three different ways of addressing the reader and three narrative contexts. The event will be chaired by Josep Torn Poch, Library Director at European University Institute.
Natasha Solomons will discuss dealing with fiction in historical novels. Born in 1980, her novels include Mr Rosenblum’s List, The Gallery of Vanished Husbands, The House at Tyneford, published by Frassinelli in Italy.
Claudio Giunta will talk about culture supplements and how to talk about books. He is Professor of Italian Literature at the University of Trento and a member of the Associazione di cultura e politica «il Mulino». He writes for the Sunday supplement of the newspaper «Il Sole-24 Ore», for the newspaper «Il Foglio» and for the website of the magazine «Internazionale». His books include Le alternative non esistono. La vita e le opere di Tommaso Labranca, Il Mulino 2020; Togliatti. Pieter M. Judson will examine historical research in the development of the European identity. He holds the Chair in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century History at the European University Institute in Florence. He is considered one of the lead experts in the history of the Habsburg empire.
