Ivan Rogers will examine the potential consequences of the Russia-Ukraine war for both the EU and UK.

As we face the worst aggression on European soil since WW2, the worst geopolitical crisis since the Cold War and the worst global inflationary crisis since the 70s, Ivan Rogers, who was at the heart of UK international policy making for a generation asks whether this crisis can finally bring an end to the protracted EU-UK crisis over Brexit.

Rogers will examine what the crisis over the potential reversal of globalisation might mean for both the EU and the UK and what Europe’s grave security crisis might mean for Europe’s view of its neighbourhood and for the UK’s view of its European role. 

Ivan Rogers was UK Perm Rep to the EU from 2013 until his resignation early on in the Brexit process in January 2017. He is now a freelance consultant and lecturer. 

Before being Perm Rep, he was the UK’s EU Sherpa a role which he combined with being G8 and G20 Sherpa. He had previously already been the UK’s G7 Sherpa when he worked as Principal Private Secretary to PM Tony Blair. Before that he served as both Europe and domestic Budget Director in HM Treasury, working for Gordon Brown. He spent 4 years in the European Commission as Chef de Cabinet to Vice President Leon Brittan, when he covered trade policy and relations with the G7 and China.
