This conference is jointly organised by the Robert Schuman Centre, Georgetown University and the Phelan US Centre at the London School of Economics.

The Russian war against Ukraine has shattered what remained of the post-Cold War order. The challenge is to understand what will take its place. How can we characterise today’s geopolitical landscape? What are the implications for economic interdependence? Is the ‘de-globalization’ we are witnessing a fundamental reorganisation of the world economy or a necessary course correction from an arrangement that prized efficiency over security to an excessive extent? What about the governance of this new world order? Can institutions like the United Nations or the World Trade Organization be revived or is support for the post-Second World War rulesbased system so weak that we will need to think about starting over? Of course, the answers to such questions hang critically on how and when Russia’s war against Ukraine comes to an end. Which powers have an interest in prolonging the war, and which are more interested in an expedient resolution than a just settlement?

This event brings together a group of leading scholars, practitioners, and analysts to discuss these and related questions. Panel discussions will be organized around the following four key themes: 'The emerging global landscape', Has de-globalization gone too far?', 'Whither Global Governance?', and 'Is there a Russia-Ukraine endgame?'.

This event is by invitation only.
