This roundtable discussion investigates what it means for the EDPS as an EU body. The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) is in the spotlight of digital public policy recently. Its bold moves towards opening a discussion on the functioning and efficiency of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) increased actions against the EU agencies and involvement in negotiations around the upcoming digital regulations package, lead to name Wojciech Wiewiórowski, the head of the regulatory body, "a rulebreaker." During the Conference on the Future of Data Protection "Effective Enforcement in the Digital World," Wiewiórowski called for a centralized enforcement mechanism.As a follow-up, we would like to investigate what it means for the EDPS as an EU body. The roundtable is organised around three areas:the evolving role of the EDPS in a current debate around the GDPRrecently increased actions around EU agencies, andthe future of the EDPS in view of new regulations.
