Seminar as part of the EUI Climate Workshop

The recent deaths of the indigenous people's activist Bruno Pereira and reporter Dom Phillips in the Javari Valley in the State of Amazonas in Brazil, is yet a new addition to a sad list of environmental murdering in the tropics, with Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Philippines taking sad top positions.

By analysing de-risking strategies within voluntary carbon offset projects, we will discuss trade-offs between the much needed support in the ground for local forest dwellers and forest stewards under chaotic land grabbing and current displacement in places like Brazil and Indonesia Papua, and the consequences for de-risked investment in AFOLU projects for the voluntary carbon market.
