On 24th October, the European Commission in cooperation with the three European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) - European Banking Authority (EBA), European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) - and the Florence School of Banking and Finance (FBF) of the European University Institute (EUI), launched the EU Supervisory Digital Finance Academy (EU-SDFA) during a special event held on the EUI premises.
The European Commission DG REFORM, in cooperation with the three European Supervisory Authorities and the European University Institute, is launching an academy to provide current future EU supervisors new skills indispensable for supervising digital finance. The training programmes of the academy will be open for participation to national supervisors from all EU Member States and ESAs’ staff. The project also aims at enhancing the financial literacy of the wider public, through the production of knowledge content on the most relevant topics related to digital finance.
The EU Supervisory Digital Finance Academy (EU-SDFA) is a newly launched initiative funded by the European Union, via the Technical Support Instrument, aiming at strengthening supervisory capacity in digital finance in support of the objectives of the 2020 EU Digital Finance Strategy.
This initiative is conceived and developed in cooperation with the three European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) - European Banking Authority (EBA), European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) - and the Florence School of Banking and Finance (FBF) of the European University Institute (EUI).
The project aims at supporting the enhancement of a robust supervisory framework in the EU, contributing to the dissemination of advanced, future-proof practices among national authorities, as well as to the exchange of expertise both on a cross-sectoral and cross-border basis. EU-SDFA would ultimately contribute to enhancing the supervisory convergence across the internal market, while supporting the transition towards a competitive, digital-based EU financial sector.
The technical execution of the project will be based on the training activities designed for the specific needs of EU-wide supervision of digital finance.
The launch event will mark the kick-off of the project on the occasion of the start of the first training course.
