Francesca Trivellato (EUI Fernand Braudel Fellow, IAS, Princeton) will give a talk in the framework of the HEC Colloquia hosted by the Department of History

The lecture will discuss the presence and absence of Max Weber in the works of prominent economic historians of medieval and early modern Europe published in the past half century. It will argue for the need to reassess Weber’s legacy in light of more vigorous disciplinary exchanges between quantitative economic history, the history of economic thought, and economic sociology. It will also showcase preliminary results of an ongoing project on the business history of early modern Tuscany that engages with Weber’s legacy and its scholarly (mis)appropriations.
