This workshop, co-organised by the EUI Interwar History Working Group and researchers from the EUI Department of Political and Social Sciences, aims to bring together researchers from different fields to examine and discuss the history of social movements, and to explore methodological approaches to their study.

This one-day workshop, jointly organised by the Interwar History Working Group (HEC) and researchers from the Department of Political and Social Sciences (SPS), will examine social movements from an interdisciplinary perspective with emphasis on their historical development. Led by Professor Mario Diani from the University of Trento and Professor Donatella della Porta from the Scuola Normale Superiore di Firenze, we will first elaborate on how civic engagement evolved from early labour mobilisations to contemporary social movements. We will then explore new methodological approaches that examine social movements as a form of organizational network.

Besides its educational goal, the workshop aims to bring together early career and advanced researchers from different departments of the EUI working on social movements, and to create a space for fruitful discussions on participants' own projects.

Please register in order to get a seat or the ZOOM link. Please write to Minja Bujakovic to receive all materials for the workshop.
