The STG Talks, held weekly at Palazzo Buontalenti, serve as a space for discussion for the STG community and beyond. Led by the STG Fellows, the talks are a place for informal learning and exchange on global issues affecting different areas of policymaking.

The panel will focus on pressing issues related to media and democracy and will provide an overview of the main challenges through case studies from Europe and Africa. The panelists will reflect on, among other things, changes to the status of journalists, the sustainability of media organisations, public service journalism, and reporting on climate change and environmental issues.

They will also discuss the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA), a new set of rules that aim to protect media independence and pluralism in the European Union (EU). While the EU has been seen as a standard-setter on digital policy, it is unclear if the Act will bring significant and more importantly, implementable changes to the media market.
