In this lecture, Luana Salvarani will present a study and a translation of Juan Huarte’s Examen de ingenious. This treaty dating from the end of the 16th Century Spain is at the crossroads of the history of education and the history of the mind. Building on earlier conceptions of the brain and its faculties, this work help us understand the extent to which the brain was linked to a peculiar conception of the mind. It also displays the political nature of the mind in relation to the formations and identifications of social elites during this period.
