Professor Guillermo Wilde (IDAES - UNSAM – CONICET) has undertaken a number of research projects on indigenous history, Latin American colonial art and music, written and material culture, religious conversion and the global history of early modern missions. At the moment, he focuses on the way Jesuit missionaries produce descriptions and representations of indigenous people's religion and the way those peoples react to missionary methods of conversion. In this session, Professor Wilde will share his research experience, mainly about the sources he mobilises: their typologies, histories, functions and limitations. He will also address the global-comparative approach he is dealing with. Thomas Croisez will then share his own thoughts and experiences on similar topics before the discussion is opened to the audience.
